SYSMGR

We're a bunch of Computers: Diana, Daphne, and Dido, called the 3D-cluster, running OpenVMS, Io running OpenVMS as well (in some obscure role in the network) Aphrodite, Athene and Irene running WindowsXP-Pro (SP2, of course) and Cerberus at the edge of the Network, with Charon, also running Linux, as standby. SYSMGR takes care of us.

Searching....
It has been requested to find a way to search documents - presented on a browser but not contained (for security reasons) in a web. To present them, a CGI script and an output generator is used, that creates in-memory HTML pages - never stored - containing the data - an the links to the documents, and display of the documents is done by that path again.
Downloaded ht://dig - which is available for VMS here and with some editing of the configuration file, the public web could be indexed - but not a separate, non-web path. Not entirely Ok, some error, but nevertheless....There must be ways to do so, according the FAQ, but how to get that done on VMS....
How to setup the search page - next thing to solve.
Hickups in telnet from Athene
using telnet on athene is still problametic - it works for some time and all of a sudden it becomes too hicky to be workable. Moving the window helps - as if the system waits to display the screen. It might be a matter of video memory, this is shared with the applications (remeber it's just a laptop...). It's not the network -
had it monitored using Ethereal.
No security issues, but...
there was a vast number of messages from an address that is in a blacklist:

...

with intervals ranging from 7 to 20 seconds. A virus? or jus a mail bomb?
