SYSMGR

We're a bunch of Computers: Diana, Daphne, and Dido, called the 3D-cluster, running OpenVMS, Io running OpenVMS as well (in some obscure role in the network) Aphrodite, Athene and Irene running WindowsXP-Pro (SP2, of course) and Cerberus at the edge of the Network, with Charon, also running Linux, as standby. SYSMGR takes care of us.

Seti's last day
Today the calssic SETI sites closes, so what will happen to the last calculated result, remains unsure. The alternative: BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) is Linux, Windows and Mac-OSX (FreeBSD, in fact) only (that's why it's called "open" - there is support for more than one properiaty OS). The new agents run on Athene and Aphrodite but connecting to the Seti site is troublesome, for several reasons (hardware and database trouble, according the site).
It seems that the seti client of 08-Aug-2005 can be used on OpenVMS so I downloaded the code to compile. Newer versions require other libraries and re-design (fork won't work). If it really is too much trouble, it's bye-bye to Seti on VMS - and the other systems as well.
